Egyptian Fava Beans for Export
Fava beans (dry broad beans, Vicia faba) are woven into Egyptian food culture more deeply than any other pulse — the raw material of ful medames and taameya, and a staple protein across the Middle East, North Africa and beyond. Export-grade Egyptian favas are field-dried, machine-cleaned, size-sorted and hand- or optically-picked to remove broken, discoloured and foreign matter before bagging.
Egyptian handlers know this bean like no one else: the trade here has decades of experience in grading favas for cooking quality — skin colour, uniform calibre and hydration behaviour — not just appearance. PEIVANA supplies both Egyptian-grown lots and Egyptian-processed favas, and wraps the deal in flexibility: mid-size tonnages, mixed dry containers with other pulses and dry goods, and same-day quotes.
Varieties & Grades
We supply whole fava beans in light-skinned cooking grades and split fava beans (peeled and halved) for taameya, flour and quick-cook applications. Typical specifications cover calibre bands (e.g. small 6–8 mm, medium 8–10 mm, large 10 mm+), purity of 99%+ with defined limits on broken, stained and insect-damaged beans, and moisture around 12–14%. Sorting is by gravity table and colour sorter, with a final manual check for premium lots.
Sizes, Packing & Palletization
| Pack format | Typical weights | Use |
|---|---|---|
| PP woven bags | 25 kg or 50 kg | Wholesale & milling |
| Retail pouches | 500 g / 1 kg (cartonized) | Private label retail |
| 40ft dry container | Approx. 25–26 MT in bags, palletized or floor-loaded | Standard FCL load |
Season & Availability
Egypt’s fava harvest lands in spring (roughly March–May), after which cleaned and fumigated stocks are held in dry warehouses. Combined with processing of complementary origins, this gives buyers year-round availability, with fresh-crop premiums in the months after harvest.
Logistics & Shipping
Fava beans travel in 40ft dry containers — no reefer needed — with kraft-lined or ventilated stowage and desiccants where humid lanes require them. We load from Alexandria, Damietta, Sokhna and Port Said for the Gulf, Europe, Asia and Africa. Fumigation certificates are arranged before sailing where the destination requires them.
Quality & Documentation
Every shipment carries a phytosanitary certificate, certificate of origin and weight/quality certificates, with fumigation documentation as needed. Processing runs through HACCP and ISO-certified cleaning and packing facilities, and pre-shipment samples can be couriered so your lab approves the exact lot before loading.
Why Buy From PEIVANA
Combine favas with other dry goods in one container instead of buying full loads of each. Take 5, 10 or 15 tonnes inside a mixed FCL if that is what your market moves. And get your price the same day you send the spec — our answer speed is part of the product.
