Egyptian Sweet Potatoes for Export

Egyptian sweet potatoes have quietly become a major success in European and Gulf markets. The sandy, well-drained soils of the Nile Delta and reclaimed lands produce smooth, uniform roots with the orange flesh, high sugars and creamy cooked texture that retail buyers want — at a freight advantage no transatlantic origin can match. Proper post-harvest curing gives Egyptian roots hardened skins and months of shelf life, making them a dependable line for supermarkets and wholesalers alike.

PEIVANA supplies cured, export-grade sweet potatoes with the flexibility that defines us: full containers, or mixed loads combining sweet potatoes with onions, potatoes or garlic in one shipment. Mid-size buyers get the same attention as program clients, and every enquiry receives a same-day answer.

Varieties & Grades

Our core variety is Beauregard — the international standard: copper-rose skin, deep-orange flesh, consistent shape and excellent flavour. Alternative white-fleshed types are available for specific ethnic-market programs. All export roots are cured after harvest to heal skin abrasions and set sweetness, then graded Class 1: clean, well-shaped roots free of cuts, weevil damage and silvering, sorted into weight bands to match each buyer’s retail spec.

Sizes, Packing & Palletization

Carton Root Size Bands Cartons per Pallet Pallets per 40ft Container
6 kg carton S (100–200 g), M (200–400 g) ~150 20–24
10 kg carton M (200–400 g), L (400–600 g) ~100 20–24
18 kg carton L / XL, wholesale ~56 20–24

A 40ft container typically carries 22–24 tonnes net depending on the carton mix.

Season & Availability

Egyptian sweet potatoes ship from August through February. Harvest starts in late summer, and curing plus cool storage keeps quality stable across the autumn and winter — covering the exact months when European demand peaks and North American fruit carries its highest landed cost into the region.

Logistics & Shipping

Cured sweet potatoes travel well in reefer containers set at +13 to +15 °C — they are chilling-sensitive and must not be shipped cold — with ventilated dry containers possible on short winter lanes. We load at Alexandria, Damietta, Sokhna and Port Said: 8–14 days to European ports (the main destination), 4–8 days to the Gulf, and additional lanes to Asia and Africa on request.

Quality & Documentation

Every shipment carries a phytosanitary certificate and certificate of origin, plus destination-specific documents. Roots come from GLOBALG.A.P.-certified partner farms and are washed (or brushed, per buyer preference), graded and packed in HACCP and ISO-certified facilities, with internal-quality cuts and skin-set checks documented at loading.
