Variety & Grades
Festival dominates Egyptian fresh exports: conical shape, glossy deep-red skin, 7.5–9+ brix, and better firmness than most short-day varieties. Limited volumes of newer cultivars are available for program buyers.
- Class 1 (Extra/A): uniform colour and shape, calyx fresh and green, no white shoulders, no bruising — the only grade we recommend for air retail programs.
- Class 2: minor shape and colour variation — suited to foodservice and juicing, usually moved locally or by short sea legs.

The Air Cold-Chain Buyer Checklist
- Harvest before 10 a.m. and field heat removed within 2 hours — forced-air pre-cooling to 2–4°C.
- Unbroken 2–4°C chain: reefer truck to airport, cold room at cargo terminal, booking on a direct or single-stop flight.
- Data logger in every consignment — non-negotiable; the logger settles arrival disputes.
- Brix minimum 7.5 and firmness check per lot; zero tolerance for grey mould (botrytis) at packing.
- Calyx condition fresh and green — the first thing a receiver’s QC photographs.
- Airport cutoff discipline: fruit packed same day as flight; no overnight ambient holds.
