Pomegranate season is close. Early Egyptian varieties start moving in late August, Wonderful follows from October, and mid-size buyers who want fruit in their autumn containers are placing part-load orders now. You do not need a full reefer of pomegranates to buy well, and this guide covers how part-load quantities work for 2026/2027.
Varieties, counts and cartons
Wonderful is the core of the Egyptian export season, deep red with high juice content, and it carries the October to January window. The early 116 type opens the season before it. Fruit is packed by count in cartons of roughly 4 to 4.5 kg, with counts from 8 to 14 per carton depending on fruit size. Lower counts mean bigger fruit and suit retail display, while higher counts price better for juicing and food service. Each fruit travels in a foam net sleeve, and cartons are palletised with corner boards for the sea leg.
Ordering by the half pallet
Part-load buyers order in half-pallet or full-pallet steps rather than container quantities, which makes it practical to run two or three counts side by side and see what your market actually takes. Fitting pomegranate into a mixed container
Pomegranate carries at 5 to 7 degrees C with high humidity, which sits comfortably alongside citrus and several winter vegetables, so it is a natural component of an autumn or winter mixed load. Timing your order
Early fruit is limited and committed quickly, while Wonderful volume builds through October and holds until January. If you want pomegranate in a container that also carries early citrus, plan the loading for late October onward when both lines are at volume. Storage fruit can extend shipments a few weeks past the harvest tail, but condition is best inside the main window.
