Egyptian Eggplant for Export
Eggplant (aubergine) is woven into the cooking of every market Egypt ships to — moussaka and baba ghanoush in the Levant, stuffed makdous, curries across Asia, grilled aubergine throughout Europe. Egypt grows the crop almost year-round in the Delta and the new desert farms, producing fruit with glossy deep-purple to black skin, dense flesh and few seeds. The long, warm growing season and skilled hand-harvesting keep quality high while Egyptian freight advantages keep landed costs competitive against Mediterranean rivals.
PEIVANA supplies eggplant the way regional wholesalers actually buy it: a few pallets at a time inside a mixed vegetable container, or dedicated loads for larger programs. As the flexible Egyptian exporter, we adjust type, calibre and packing to each market rather than forcing one spec on everyone.
Varieties & Grades
Two families cover most demand. Long types (classic dark-purple fruit of 18–25 cm, plus the slender “Aswan”-style fruit favoured for stuffing and frying) and round/oval types (globe eggplant with meaty flesh for grilling and moussaka). White and striped specialty types are available on request. Export grade is Class 1: firm fruit with fresh green calyx, uniform colour, no scarring, pest damage or over-maturity.
Sizes, Packing & Palletization
| Spec | Typical options |
|---|---|
| Long types | 18–25 cm, sorted by length and diameter |
| Round types | 300–500 g per fruit, count-packed |
| Packs | 5 kg and 10 kg open-top cartons; plastic crates for Gulf wholesale |
| 40ft reefer | 20–24 pallets, approx. 18–22 tonnes net |
Season & Availability
Egyptian eggplant is available most of the year, with the strongest export quality and volumes from October through June. Summer supply continues from cooler microclimates for buyers who need continuity across twelve months.
Logistics & Shipping
Eggplant is sensitive to chilling, so reefers run at 10–12°C with humidity control to prevent pitting and calyx browning. We load at Alexandria, Damietta, Sokhna and Port Said, serving the Gulf on fast Red Sea services, Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean from the northern ports, and African and Asian markets on established lanes. Packing density and maturity are tuned to each transit.
Quality & Documentation
All shipments travel with a phytosanitary certificate and certificate of origin, plus legalized documents where required. Fruit comes from GLOBALG.A.P-certified partner farms and passes through HACCP/ISO-certified packhouses with cold-chain custody from field to port and photographic QC at stuffing.
