Egyptian Lemons for Export
Egyptian lemons deliver what commercial kitchens, juicers and retailers want from the fruit: high juice content, bright acidity, fine skins and dependable availability across nearly the whole calendar. Grown in the Nile Delta and on newer desert plantations, Egyptian lemons benefit from the same sun-rich climate that made the country a citrus powerhouse, and they land in Gulf, European, Asian and African markets at prices that consistently undercut Mediterranean competitors.
PEIVANA treats lemons as the ideal “program filler” for flexible buyers. Few importers need lemons by the dozen containers — but many need a steady few pallets alongside their oranges or mandarins. Our mixed-container model lets you slot lemons into a citrus or vegetable load in exactly the volume you need, with a same-day quote on any combination.
Varieties & Grades
Our lead variety is Adalia, Egypt’s main commercial lemon: oval fruit with smooth, thin rind, few seeds and juice content typically above 40%. Green-tinted fruit is available early in each flush, with fully yellow fruit as the season matures; both presentations are exportable per market preference. Fruit is packed in Class 1 export grade, washed, waxed and sorted by caliber and colour, with Class 2 available for juicing and wholesale channels.
Sizes, Packing & Palletization
| Pack | Sizes / Counts | Cartons per Pallet | Pallets per 40ft Reefer |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 kg open-top carton | Counts 80–165 | ~80 | 20 |
| 10 kg carton | Caliber 4–7 | ~100 | 20 |
| Retail nets in cartons | 500 g / 1 kg | Per program | 20 |
A 40ft reefer loads roughly 20–24 tonnes net depending on the pack.
Season & Availability
Thanks to multiple flowering flushes, Egyptian lemons are effectively available year-round, with the heaviest volumes and best pricing from August to February. This makes Egypt a reliable counter-seasonal and gap-filling origin when Spanish and Turkish supply tightens or Southern Hemisphere fruit becomes expensive.
Logistics & Shipping
Lemons ship in reefer containers set at +8 to +10 °C (lemons are more chilling-sensitive than oranges) with ventilation, loading at Alexandria, Damietta, Sokhna or Port Said. Transit times run 4–8 days to the Gulf via Sokhna, 8–14 days to Mediterranean and North European ports, 14–25 days to Asia, and regular sailings to African destinations. Smaller lemon lots ride comfortably in shared citrus containers.
Quality & Documentation
Every load ships with a phytosanitary certificate and certificate of origin, plus destination-specific documents on request. Fruit comes from GLOBALG.A.P.-certified partner farms and is packed in HACCP and ISO-certified packhouses, with juice-content and rind-quality checks at intake and pulp-temperature verification at loading.
