Egyptian Figs for Export
Fresh Egyptian figs are a short-season delicacy: honey-sweet, thin-skinned fruit picked at dawn from coastal and Delta orchards, cooled fast and moved to market within days. The dominant commercial type is the Sultani fig, a large, amber-to-brown fruit with dense red flesh and high brix that performs beautifully on premium fruit counters across the Gulf and Europe.
Egypt’s fig belt — notably the sandy soils along the northwest coast — gives the fruit its concentrated sweetness, and an early-summer window lets Egyptian figs reach markets while many competing origins are still ripening. Figs are unforgiving of slow suppliers, and that is where PEIVANA’s model helps: same-day quotes, fast confirmation, air-freight options for premium programs, and mixed loads so a few pallets of figs can travel with other seasonal fruit.
Varieties & Grades
Our lead variety is Sultani, supplemented by local purple- and green-skinned types on request. Class 1 export fruit is intact, unbruised, uniform in ripeness and free of splits or souring, harvested at eating ripeness for air shipments and slightly firmer for sea programs. Sizing is by count per punnet or tray, with fruit weight bands agreed per order.
Sizes, Packing & Palletization
| Pack format | Typical spec | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Single-layer trays | 1–2 kg, 12–20 fruit, paper-cushioned | Premium retail & wholesale |
| Punnets in cartons | 8 x 250 g or 6 x 400 g | Supermarket programs |
| Air pallets / reefer | Built to airline ULD or 20 pallets per 40ft reefer | Air & sea shipments |
Figs are always packed single-layer with cell trays or cushioning — never bulk — and pre-cooled before dispatch.
Season & Availability
The Egyptian fresh fig season runs from July to September, peaking in August. Because the window is short, we recommend booking programs before the season opens; weekly volumes are confirmed against orchard forecasts as picking begins.
Logistics & Shipping
For premium markets we ship by air freight out of Egypt for arrival within 24–48 hours. Sea shipments use reefer containers at 0–2°C with high humidity for short lanes such as the Gulf and Mediterranean Europe, loading from Alexandria, Damietta, Sokhna or Port Said. Figs also ride as part-loads inside mixed reefer containers with compatible fruit.
Quality & Documentation
Fruit is sourced from GLOBALG.A.P-certified partner orchards and packed in HACCP and ISO-certified packhouses with cold-chain control from field to aircraft or vessel. Shipments carry a phytosanitary certificate and certificate of origin, with residue analyses available to destination-market MRLs.
Why Buy From PEIVANA
A short-season fruit needs a fast counterpart: we answer the same day, arrange air or sea to suit your margin, and let mid-size buyers take a few pallets inside a mixed load rather than a full container of one delicate item. Pair figs with guava, grapes or other summer fruit in a single shipment.
Fig season moves quickly — request a quote now and lock in your July–September program.
