Egyptian Tomatoes for Export

Egypt is one of the world’s largest tomato producers, and its fresh round and plum tomatoes have become a dependable line for importers across the Gulf, Europe, Africa and Asia. Grown in the Nile Delta, Beheira, Fayoum and the newer desert reclamation zones, Egyptian tomatoes develop deep red colour, firm walls and a balanced sugar-acid profile thanks to abundant sunshine and cool winter nights. Field-grown and protected crops overlap through the season, which keeps supply stable across the long export window from October to June — exactly when Northern Hemisphere production is scarcest and most expensive.

PEIVANA sources tomatoes through vetted growers and packs to buyer specification rather than pushing one standard pack. As the flexible Egyptian exporter, we are built for mid-size programs that fall below the minimums of the big houses, and we routinely combine tomatoes with other vegetables in a single mixed reefer so a wholesaler can fill a container without over-committing to one item.

Varieties & Grades

We ship two main commercial types. Round tomatoes (beef and cluster-style hybrids) suit retail and foodservice programs that want uniform, glossy fruit, while plum/Roma types are favoured for firmness, longer shelf life and suitability for catering and light processing. Grading follows Class 1 export standards: uniform colour at the agreed maturity stage (mature green, breaker, pink or full red depending on transit time), free of cracks, blemish and decay, calibre-sorted on modern lines.

Sizes, Packing & Palletization

Spec Typical options
Calibres 47–57 mm, 57–67 mm, 67–82 mm (buyer’s choice)
Cartons 5–7 kg open-top cartons; 15–20 kg plastic crates for regional markets
Pallets Standard or Euro pallets, corner-boarded and strapped
40ft reefer 20–24 pallets, roughly 20–24 tonnes net depending on pack

Season & Availability

The main export season runs from October through June. Early autumn volumes come from the Delta, winter supply from protected and southern plantings, and spring fruit carries the program into early summer. Within the season we can hold weekly programs or ship spot loads at short notice.

Logistics & Shipping

Fresh tomatoes travel in reefer containers set around 10–13°C for mature green to breaker fruit, or 8–10°C for pink to red fruit on shorter lanes, with ventilation managed to avoid chilling injury. We load from Alexandria, Damietta, Sokhna and Port Said, reaching Gulf ports in under a week, Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean on short direct services, and African and Asian destinations on established lanes. Harvest maturity is matched to each destination’s transit time.

Quality & Documentation

Every shipment leaves with a phytosanitary certificate and certificate of origin, plus any legalized documents the destination market requires. Fruit comes from GLOBALG.A.P-certified partner farms and is packed in HACCP/ISO-certified packhouses with cold-chain control from field to vessel. Pre-shipment inspection reports and loading photos are shared before the container gates in.
