Egyptian Cucumbers for Export

Crisp, dark-green and uniformly straight, Egyptian cucumbers have carved out a solid position in winter vegetable programs across the Gulf and Europe. Most export fruit is grown in greenhouses and high tunnels in the Delta, Ismailia and the desert-margin farms, where controlled conditions produce the glossy skin, small seed cavity and long shelf life that retail buyers specify. Because the crop is protected, quality holds steady even through mid-winter, when open-field production elsewhere struggles.

PEIVANA plans cucumber programs around the buyer, not the other way round. As the flexible Egyptian exporter, we handle mid-size weekly volumes that larger houses turn away, and we frequently load cucumbers alongside tomatoes, peppers and lettuce in one mixed reefer — a practical way for distributors to cover a full salad range with a single booking.

Varieties & Grades

The core of our program is the short to medium “Beit Alpha” type cucumber — thin-skinned, seedless-eating and burpless — which dominates Middle Eastern demand, alongside medium slicer types for markets that prefer a larger fruit. Export grading is Class 1: straight fruit with well-formed shoulders, uniform dark colour, firm flesh and no yellowing, scarring or soft ends.

Sizes, Packing & Palletization

Spec Typical options
Lengths 12–16 cm (Beit Alpha), 16–20 cm (medium slicer)
Packs 5 kg and 10 kg cartons; shrink-wrapped or flow-pack options for retail
Pallets Standard or Euro pallets, pre-cooled before stuffing
40ft reefer 20–24 pallets, approx. 18–22 tonnes net

Season & Availability

The export window runs October through June, with greenhouse production keeping supply consistent through the winter peak. Successive plantings mean fresh harvests are always coming on line, so programs can start or scale mid-season.

Logistics & Shipping

Cucumbers are chilling-sensitive, so reefers are set at 10–12°C with high humidity to keep fruit turgid without cold damage. We ship from Alexandria, Damietta, Sokhna and Port Said: Gulf destinations are typically reached within a week via Sokhna or Port Said, while Mediterranean and European buyers are served on short direct services from Alexandria and Damietta. African and Asian lanes are quoted case by case with maturity and packing adjusted to transit time.

Quality & Documentation

Every load ships with a phytosanitary certificate and certificate of origin, plus destination-specific paperwork on request. Fruit is grown on GLOBALG.A.P-certified partner farms and packed in HACCP/ISO-certified packhouses, with cold chain maintained from greenhouse to port and QC photo reports issued at loading.
