Egyptian Okra for Export
Okra is a staple of kitchens from the Levant to the Gulf to West Africa, and Egypt grows some of the finest in the region: small, tender, deep-green pods picked young before fibre develops. The prized “zero grade” — tiny pods of roughly 1–3 cm — commands a premium in Middle Eastern markets for traditional stews, while slightly larger grades serve broader retail and foodservice demand. Egyptian summer heat, fertile Delta and Upper Egypt soils and daily hand-harvesting give the crop the tenderness and colour that buyers of Levantine and Gulf cuisines insist on.
PEIVANA works directly with okra growers who pick to order, so pods reach the packhouse within hours of harvest. Because we are the flexible Egyptian exporter, okra rarely ships alone from us: it slots neatly into mixed vegetable containers, letting importers add a fast-moving specialty item without dedicating a full reefer to it.
Varieties & Grades
We supply the fine-podded Egyptian types preferred for their dark colour and low fibre. Grading is by pod length: zero grade (extra-fine baby pods, the top of the market), grade one (small pods around 3–5 cm) and grade two (medium pods for general cooking). All grades are hand-picked, hand-sorted and free of blackening, bruising and hard, over-mature pods.

Season & Availability
Fresh Egyptian okra runs from May through October, with peak quality and volume in the summer months when Northern Hemisphere alternatives are limited. Within the season we harvest against confirmed orders to keep pods at their youngest.
Logistics & Shipping
Okra is delicate and respires fast, so it is pre-cooled quickly and shipped at 7–10°C with high humidity to prevent chilling injury and blackening. Short sea lanes to the Gulf and Eastern Mediterranean work well in reefer containers from Alexandria, Damietta, Sokhna and Port Said; for distant markets or premium zero-grade programs, air freight from Cairo is arranged. Mixed reefer loads with other summer vegetables are our specialty.
Quality & Documentation
Shipments carry a phytosanitary certificate and certificate of origin as standard. Pods come from GLOBALG.A.P-certified partner farms and are sorted and packed in HACCP/ISO-certified packhouses, with residue monitoring aligned to destination-market requirements. Inspection photos and reports are shared before dispatch.
